A fault with the signalling system between Middlesbrough and Whitby means that trains have to run at reduced speed on the line. As a result, trains running between these stations may be delayed by up to 60 minutes.

This is expected until 12:00.

What's happened?

Services between Middlesbrough and Whitby are currently being disrupted due to a fault with the signalling system at Battersby.

Network Rail are on site.

How does this affect my journey?

Train services are still able to run between Middlesbrough and Whitby (in both directions); however, services will be subject to delays of up to 60 minutes and may be revised.

Northern services between Carlisle / Newcastle and Nunthorpe are not directly affected by this incident. However, some services may be delayed due to the displacement of trains.

What should I do?

You can travel on the next Northern service to your destination, where available.

Northern train ticket restrictions have been lifted in the affected areas, including Advance and Peak restrictions, during this disruption. Restrictions will be reinstated once the disruption ends.

Check before you travel:

You can check your journey using the National Rail Enquiries real-time Journey Planner.

Compensation:

You may be entitled to compensation if you experience a delay in completing your journey today. Please keep your train ticket and make a note of your journey, as both will be required to support any claim.
